Oggi vi porto con me in un itinerario che unisce lago e montagna, borghi e panorami: da Cadorago a Pigra, passando per Como e Argegno.
The Journey Begins: From Cadorago to Como Lago
The journey starts at Cadorago station, just a short walk from La Maison de Geraldine. Trenord regional trains take about 35 minutes to reach Como Lago—a comfortable and stress-free ride. Our tip? Grab a window seat: the view of the rolling hills gently approaching the lake is the perfect prelude to your day.
Breakfast with a View
Once you arrive in Como, before boarding the boat, treat yourself to breakfast at Pasticceria Fuin (Via G.B. Grassi 10), just a short walk from the ferry terminal. The croissants are freshly baked, the cappuccino is rich and creamy, and the outdoor tables let you enjoy the city’s slow morning awakening. It’s my personal favorite—and I warmly recommend it—but along Como’s lakefront, you’ll surely find the perfect spot for a delicious and relaxing breakfast.
Cruising the Lake: Como → Argegno

Arriving in Argegno feels gentle and serene. The village opens onto a small square overlooking the water, with cafés and gelato shops that warmly invite you to stop and relax.

Upwards: The Cable Car to Pigra
Just a few minutes on foot and you reach the historic Argegno–Pigra cable car, inaugurated in 1971 and still one of the steepest in Europe, with a maximum gradient of 95%. In less than 5 minutes, it climbs over 600 meters, soaring between the blue of Lake Como and the green slopes of the Intelvi Valley. The route, about 900 meters long, offers breathtaking views and a truly unique experience. At the top, 881 meters above sea level, you're welcomed by a special kind of silence — the silence of mountain villages where time seems to stand still.
Lunch with a View
In Pigra, time truly slows down. For lunch, I recommend Le Lanterne di Pigra (Via Roma 2), a small trattoria with a panoramic terrace. Here, traditional Lombard dishes—simple and authentic—are served alongside a breathtaking view of the lake in all its beauty. Don’t miss the pizzoccheri or the red wine–braised beef (brasato al vino rosso).

The Return to Argegno… On Foot (If You Dare)
After a generous lunch with a view, you might start thinking about the classic digestive walk. Sure, the cable car is right there waiting for you… but wouldn’t it be more satisfying to hike down to Argegno like a local legend? 🐐 The trail winds through chestnut woods, old stone walls, and panoramic views, with a descent of over 600 meters in elevation. Walking time? About 1.5 hours, depending on how much brasato you had. Comfy shoes, a water bottle, and a good sense of humor: that’s your ideal gear.
